Doug Cloud was born in Tacoma and grew up on Fife Heights, then still a rural area. His parents, Ridge and Bonnie Cloud, had both come to the Northwest as children in the years of the Great Depression and taught Doug and his two older sisters from an early age the value of self-reliance and hard work.
Doug learned the value of hard work at a young age, first with a paper route and then a recycling business. Later he worked summers as a farm laborer, a factory worker, at a lumberyard, and for Pierce County parks. Doug was a union employee at the Kingdome and was elected shop steward for the SEIU. He participated in union-management negotiations, making significant changes in one contract.
In high school Doug played sports and excelled at academics. He was elected junior class and later was elected Student Body President. After graduation from Fife High School in 1975, he earned a degree in economics, followed by a Juris Doctor degree, at the University of Washington.
Doug was soon serving as a Deputy Prosecutor for Kitsap County.
Since entering private law practice, Doug has specialized in fighting corruption that takes away people’s rights. He has successfully fought the big drug companies, crooked employers who fire whistleblowers, shady real estate operators, and civil rights cases.
Trying hundreds of court cases, Doug’s experience has given him a deep respect for the Constitution and its enshrinement of the principal of individual liberty. Broad knowledge of the law has shown him how a corrupted legislative process in Washington, DC, leads to unintended consequences that weaken our nation.
Doug and Elice Cloud have been married for 25 years. They have three children, Thomas, Allie, and Anna. Residents of Gig Harbor for over 20 years, they are active members of their church. Doug has coached youth sports for the Peninsula Athletic Association. He played church league softball for many years as a third baseman.
