DOUG CLOUD TO RUN FOR CONGRESS IN 6th DISTRICT
Tacoma, WA – Doug Cloud, a Tacoma lawyer, Monday announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representative in Washington’s 6th Congressional District.
Cloud addressed a group of friends and supporters who gathered at Fireman’s Park in Tacoma, telling them that government spending is out of control and that only a change in leadership can turn government away from more unpopular tax-payer funded bailouts, crippling taxes and government-takeovers of various industries. “Planned economies have never worked, and they never will work. We must turn against the failed social and economic policies of the past. We must create jobs, not destroy them,” Cloud said.
Cloud said that in order to restore the economy, Congress must be committed to getting government out of micro-managing the economy. Cloud told supporters, “Norm Dicks has spent his career pushing for bigger government, higher taxes and tax-payer funded gifts to the politically well-connected. These favors to special interests waste economic resources and reduce economic growth.”
A recent survey recently showed that Norm Dicks is one of several Congressional Democrats in Western Washington now vulnerable in 2010 because his positions supporting the unpopular “health care reform” bill and various other job killing legislation, such as “cap and trade.”
Cloud spoke of a “culture of corruption” in Congress and said that Norm Dicks uses his office to benefit special interests at the expense of taxpayers and the people of the 6th District, citing the heavily-criticized “Stimulus Package” and the controversial “Wall Street bailouts” as examples.
Cloud, a Gig harbor resident, operates an independent law practice in Tacoma's Hilltop district. He has represented a cross section of people from the area, including his district’s most vulnerable, which have given him a real understanding of the circumstances the people of his district face on a daily basis. He has challenged entrenched power of all sorts on behalf of his clients. Cloud has shown his strong convictions by repeatedly raising the issues that trouble our country in past campaigns.
